Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is a natural, non-surgical, drug-free treatment that involves manipulation of restricted joints in the spine and extremeties. Joints can become restricted due to improper posture, trauma/injury, or poor muscle activity.

This is the traditional “snap crackle pop” part of chiropractic care that you might be familiar with. Chiropractic adjustments are an important component to our treatments.

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization

Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization (DNS) is a school of thought, assessment, and rehab method based off of the developmental stages of babies! Though used to treat adults, DNS guides patients through a series of poses that resemble our most functional selves- how we move as infants.  The purpose of this technique is to promote proper co-activation & coordination the neuromuscular system, and been successful in treating many complicated neuromusculoskeletal issues including cerebral palsy and stroke patients.

Functional Rehab + Training

Improper movement patterns, or movement dysfunction, are often major contributors to pain syndromes and poor performance. Functional training demands more than a weight-loss focus. Here, physician-directed programs and trainers work to build strength, power, endurance and athletic performance, while encouraging safe, controlled movement patterns and long-term injury prevention.

VENUS’s functional training programs are designed to reshape your quality of life, redefine your health and improve your body’s durability. Classes include: Small Group Athletic Training for High School and College Athlete, DNS correctives for proper lifting techniques, Professional-level performance enhancement, & Functional Flow and Movement Prep.

Acupuncture + Dry Needling

Dry needling & Acupuncture are slightly different techniques that both involve the use of filamentous needles inserted into the skin and fascia.

Dry Needling: The term “dry” is used because there is no fluid injected into the skin as with a flu or insulin shot. The needles are inserted into tight muscles or fascial adhesions, where the beneficial effect is due to the stimulation of the nervous system, which allows the area to “reset”.

Acupuncture: A similar technique deeply rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In this case, the insertion of needles is based on Meridians of the body, influencing fascial planes and benefiting whole body health.

McKenzie Method

The McKenzie Method (MDT) is world renowned assessment process intended for all musculoskeletal problems, including pain in the back, neck, extremeties (shoulder, elbow, ankle, etc). MDT has also been shown to improve issues associated with sciatica, sacroiliac joint pain, arthritis, degenerative disc disease, muscle spasms, and intermittent numbness of the hands & feet.

Cupping + Taping

Cupping & Taping are two techniques used to enhance fluid dynamics, posture, nerve entrapment and scars.

The effects of elastic therapeutic taping include pain mitigation, circulation improvement and proprioception training. We believe in ‘taping movement, not muscles’ to allow your body to continue to improve while you move, even while you’re outside of the office.

Cupping Therapy is thousands of years old (rooted in Traditional Chinese Medicine), but became extremely popular in the U.S. when they were showcased on several elite athletes during the 2016 Summer Olympic Games. Cupping provides a decompressive force to the skin and fascia, improving fascial glide and often mitigating complicated pain processes.

Myofascial Release

Myofascial (muscle & fascia) release is used anytime a patient has a painful condition that involves muscles or nerves that do not move or slide properly. Adhesions between the muscles, connective tissue, or nerves can eventually lead to pain. By applying the proper treatment, these adhesions can be “released” which leads to properly moving and functional muscles and nerves. We may use our hands in massage-style Pin & Stretch technique or Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Manipulation (IASTM) metal tools for an easy, painless treatment.

Selective Functional Movement Assessment

The SFMA is our clinical assessment for those who experience pain. It is a movement based diagnostic system which systematically finds the cause of pain - not just the source - by logically breaking down dysfunctional movement patterns. The SFMA fills our clinical need to assess for stability and/or motor control dysfunctions as well as mobility dysfunctions. We use the SFMA during our initial exam visits to screen our patients for faulty movement patterns. This way, we can help coach our patient how to move well, preventing future injury.
